Although many people assume colleagues and peers are the same, this is not necessarily the case. In an office environment, a colleague can be anyone at your workplace — whether she is a superior or working in a position below yours. Whereas a peer is someone of equal standing to you, whether in terms of job responsibility or salary. A colleague can be any professional associate in your office, whether you really know the person or not. Colleagues can be from other company divisions, different departments, or persons with titles that are not the same as yours. Colleagues are those explicitly united in a common purpose and respecting each other's abilities to work toward that purpose.
